The Virtual Trillium Diwali Gala 2020 Funding Priority
Again this year, The Virtual Trillium Diwali Gala will support our leading Cancer program by directing proceeds to cancer care and treatment technologies. Funds will also go to health care research to improve patient outcomes in our community.
As the province and especially the health system braced for the impact of COVID-19, the Cancer Care program was busy drafting plans to manage care during the pandemic. The first priority was to continue to treat patients as needed, while also switching as much care as possible to a virtual platform, recognizing the vulnerability of patients during their cancer treatment. The hospital also diverted all cancer care from Queensway Health Centre to Credit Valley Hospital to consolidate its efforts.
THP is committed to ongoing program innovation. To maximize access to our six linear accelerators (which provide radiation treatment), we were the first hospital in Canada to provide seven-day-a-week radiation during a 2018 pilot project. We are now reactivating seven-day-access during our linac replacement process. As one of the largest cancer centres in Ontario, we also actively participate in clinical trials, which gives our patients early access to specialized drugs. We remain fiercely committed to doing the absolute best for our patients during COVID-19.
