The captivating personality who launched our LOL gala in 2013 as event headliner is coming back to mastermind our comedy fest once again. With a prolific 30-year career wearing many hats and spanning many disciplines – including movies, TV game shows, and even an animated series – Mandel underpins every performance with an energetic comedy style that has become his own.
After launching his career in Toronto during the late 1970s doing stand-up comedy, he quickly harnessed his class clown antics and ventured out as an all-round funnyman, earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008. He’s since carved a niche for himself as the darling of network television, hosting hit primetime shows such as Deal or No Deal, and as the endearing and long-serving judge on America’s Got Talent.
Mandel’s versatile career has encompassed virtually all aspects of the entertainment spectrum, including television, film and stage. From his work on the Emmy Award-winning “St. Elsewhere,” to the international animated children’s series “Bobby’s World,” Mandel has become a mainstay of the American comedy scene.
After first revealing his struggles with OCD and ADHD on The Howard Stern Show in 2006, his 2009 memoir Here's the Deal: Don't Touch Me offers a lighthearted account of his ongoing and open battle with germaphobia. His observational comedy often pokes fun at his compulsive behaviour as a way to draw humour from his condition and bring attention to a serious matter in a comedy setting.
Mandel's rise from local carpet salesman to A-list personality is being featured in an upcoming documentary about the comedian set for release in 2021. In the meantime, he’ll be bringing the laughter back home to the GTA for LOL 2020.
